The Blog Love I bring you this week is one after my own heart. Before I started reading and writing for Beauty and Lace this blog would have been my ultimate reading list. They focus on the genre of my heart and I would have happily got lost there before starting at Beauty and Lace and broadening my reading horizons.

Take a look at Carolyn’s blog profile and then come check it out with me, I think I’ll be spending time over there.

Welcome to Beauty and Lace Carolyn and thanks for participating.

How did you get started as a book blogger?

I started BookChickCity.com in July 2009 as I wanted to share my love of books and reading. Since then it has grown so much and I now have six reviewers. We’re all obsessed with reading and it’s a really great team. I’m very proud of how my blog has evolved.

What is your background?

I’ve had a pretty varied life so far; studying music for ten years training as a classical singer and pianist, studying and qualifying as a veterinary nurse, owning my own wedding & portrait photography business as well as other bits and bobs along the way.

Tell us about your blog?

BookChickCity.com is predominately an urban fantasy, paranormal romance and horror review blog, but we do have a feature that we run each Saturday where we review other romance genres such as contemporary, historical and erotic. This keeps us fresh as reading the same genres over and over, even if we love them, can lead to feeling a bit burnt out. We also have authors write guest posts, giveaways, and fun features such as Book Chat and Top 5 Books, among others.<

Is blogging a hobby or a job for you?

Blogging is a hobby for me and my reviewers, but we do take it pretty seriously. My blog is my baby and I treat it as such, I care for it A LOT.

What is your favourite book of all time?

I always find it so hard to answer this as I’ve read so many amazing books over the years. I would have to say DRACULA by Bram Stoker, but there are many others I adore.

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading two books that are at either end of the spectrum. At one end I’m reading DISINTEGRATION, a zombie horror by David Moody and at the other end I’m reading a Christmas contemporary romance by Sarah Morgan called ONCE UPON A CHRISTMAS (ready for our Christmas Event this December).

Which author would you most like to meet and why?

Oh wow… ummm.  I think it would be fun to meet Mary Shelley. I really loved Frankenstein and it was so well written and before it’s time. I’d love to discuss it with her and find out how she came up with such an idea. I bet it would be a fascinating conversation.

What book would you like to see made into a movie?

I would love to see Rhiannon Frater’s As the World Dies zombie series made into a series of movies as they are just brilliant books that I think would translate amazingly for the big screen.

What future plans do you have for your blog?

I always have plans for my blog whether it’s the design or the features we run. It’s always evolving which is great as it keeps it fresh.

Name 3 of your favourite blogs?

Hmmm, this is a toughie as I enjoy lots of blogs…. but I suppose there are ones I go to more often. So…

1) For romance my go-to-blog is Smexy Books – they are killer on my wallet. They review a range of romance sub-genres and have been responsible for many purchases and for delving deeper into the world of erotica.

2) All Things Urban Fantasy is probably the blog I visit the most for urban fantasy reviews and finding new books. They have great cover art coverage and monthly releases post which always results in my wishlist getting that bit bigger.

3) For interesting posts I visit The Vampire Club A site with varied content but always entertaining.

What does being a book blogger mean to you?

I just enjoy discussing books, reading books and talking about books. That’s what Book Chick City allows me to do. The book blogging community has changed quite a bit since I came on the scene, but there are many I would call my “virtual friends” – I wouldn’t have met these fab people if it wasn’t for my blog or our joint interest in books.
Thanks for inviting me. It’s been fun.
